MM – Medication Management

This course provides workers with the knowledge and skills to safely assist individuals with medication management in line with legislation.


Introduction:

Medication management is a critical responsibility in healthcare and community settings. This course equips workers with the knowledge and skills required to safely support individuals with their medication needs, ensuring compliance with legislation, minimising risks, and promoting positive health outcomes.


Target Audience:

Support workers, disability support staff, aged care workers, and healthcare assistants involved in medication support.

  • Understand the importance of medication management and their role in supporting it
  • Identify relevant legislation and regulations
  • Identify different medication types, classifications, and routes of administration
  • Apply the 8 rights of medication administration in practice
  • Safely prepare and administer medications following correct procedures
  • Support participant choice, consent, and medication adherence
  • Apply infection control practices during medication preparation and administration
  • Recognise and respond to medication risks, side effects, and adverse reactions
  • Identify when medications must not be administered and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Recognise and respond to medication incidents and errors, including near misses
  • Accurately document medication administration and report concerns in line with procedures
